Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) convenes global leaders to create and implement solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, inclusive economic growth, and health equity. To date, members of the CGI community have made more than 3,900 Commitments to Action that have made a difference in the lives of more than 435 million people in more than 180 countries.

“This year’s meeting will focus on what it takes to keep going—to maintain and advance progress, in spite of the difficulties that arise, and increase our capacity to cross the divides and make common cause with one another wherever possible to build a stronger future for all”, President Clinton stated in a letter.

Upton was asked to participate in the event to share the work Native CDFIs are doing to grow thriving economies across Indian Country.
