The Center for Indian Country Development (CICD) of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis released a study on the challenges Native entrepreneurs face to access credit. Using new data from the Federal Reserve’s Small Business Credit Survey (SBCS), this study explores some of those challenges and characterizes the sources and amounts of financing Native-owned businesses tend to access. The study found that Native businesses are more likely to have difficulties accessing credit and financial services—a reality that highlights the importance of institutions that specialize in providing technical assistance and other business supports in Indian Country.
