The Native CDFI Network (NCN) is proud to announce the success of its recent California Native Partnership Gathering, held from February 25-27, 2025, in Lemoore, California. This regional meeting marked a significant step in the creation of more Native CDFIs in California and Nevada, bringing together tribal leaders, economic development professionals, and community advocates to highlight the ongoing work of Native CDFIs in the region.

“The NCN California Native Partnership Gathering was a tremendous success in showcasing the power and potential of Native CDFIs across California and Nevada,” said Pete Upton, CEO of the Native CDFI Network. “This event not only fostered stronger connections but also reinforced our commitment to creating lasting change in Native communities. NCN will continue to advance its efforts, ensuring that Native communities across Indian Country receive the resources and support necessary to build and sustain strong Native CDFIs.

The gathering underscored the impact of community-driven development and the crucial role Native CDFIs play in promoting self-sufficiency, economic growth, and climate resilience in Native communities. With a focus on sustainable solutions, the event emphasized the importance of expanding economic independence and utilizing programs like the Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) to introduce alternative energy solutions to the most remote Native communities, ensuring no community is left behind in the clean energy transition.

“At the NCN California Native Partnership Gathering, it became clear that the strength of Native communities lies in the empowerment of Native CDFIs,” said Upton. “By building trust, fostering relationships, and exploring innovative capital access strategies, we are paving the way for long-term growth and sustainability. Supporting the creation of Native CDFIs is not just about funding—it’s about building the infrastructure and partnerships necessary for meaningful, lasting change.”

The California Native Partnership Gathering featured a series of sessions focusing on community development, cultural preservation, and economic independence. Participants engaged with leaders from the Tule River Tribe and other Native organizations, learning how integrated planning efforts are shaping sustainable communities. A tour of the Tule River Tribe’s housing projects highlighted the Tribe’s commitment to workforce development, housing, and community growth.
