On Friday, March 4, 2022, NCN hosted Casey Lozar from the Center for Indian Country Development. CICD is currently working to deepen – through data – our understanding of the state and progress of tribal economies across Indian Country and how that should inform policy solutions at the tribal, federal, and state levels.

Casey started the session by explaining the mission of the CICD and key priorities for their research. He discussed that the CICD’s vision is to have Indian Countryinput through surveys and listening sessions for data opportunities and policy development. Casey ended his presentation by announcing that CICD will be expanding its capacity to deliver public benefit through a long-term data initiative. Through this expansion, CICD hopes to partner with more tribes on tribal data projects.

During the discussion session, Casey answered multiple questions about how the CICD could help within various situations such as assisting federal agencies to update their policies to work more effectively in Indian Country. Casey also shared some insights for Native CDFIs and their continued work with Tribes and tribal leaders.

The Native CDFI Network has been actively involved in providing support for Tribes and Native CDFIs that support the implementation of economic recovery efforts of our Tribal nations and our Native-owned small businesses.
